Two men from Edmonton are facing charges after being arrested in Inuvik.

Inuvik RCMP say they executed a search warrant on April 29 as part of a drug trafficking investigation. During the search of an unnamed residence, police say they uncovered 37 grams of cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Abubakar Bakal, 30, of Edmonton, is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime and failing to comply with the conditions of a release. Bakal was already facing a charge related to another drug trafficking warrant executed in March and had been released on bail.

Mohamed Egah, 29, of Edmonton, is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Both men are in custody pending their court appearance on May 2.

“The Inuvik Detachment will continue to focus enforcement efforts on individuals who seek to profit from the distribution of these harmful substances in out community,” stated detachment commander Staff Sgt. Jesse Aubin.

Anyone who has information about this incident or any other illegal activity is asked to contact the Inuvik RCMP at 867-777-1111 or Crime Stoppers at http://www.p3tips.com. In the event of an emergency call, 911.
