The legislative assembly’s new website is up and running, going live on Tuesday morning. The motion to build a new website was passed by the previous assembly in October 2022.

“We had concerns from the public that they were unable to find documents and perform searches, among other things, due to the outdated website,” said Kim Wickens, deputy clerk with the assembly.

Wickens added that new features have been incorporated into the website. The public can now find a dedicated bill and legislation page, which allows them to track the progress of what’s going through the house. An updated member page shows what members have said in the house courtesy of an enhanced Hansard function allows the public easier access.

Research and engagement sessions with staff and members were conducted over the past two years, along with the development of content and appearance.

Wickens explained that the website went through multiple phases before the project commenced on June 15, 2023.

The total cost of the project was $140,000, she added.

Although the website has already launched, the public might still see some missing links, but Wickens said that the assembly is working on updating them.

Speaker Shane Thompson said he’s “thrilled” about the launch of the website, specifically the section on committees.

“Facilitating feedback through our streamlined committee section is a testament to fostering meaningful public engagement,” he said.
