NNSL Photo/Graphic Elder instructor Zipporah K. Aronsen shows Cpl. Mathieu Poulin, left, and Lt. Farhang Ekhlas, right, of the Canadian Forces how to make polar bear mitts. Qarmartalik School in Resolute was recently visited by members of the Canadian Forces who are involved in training exercises outside of the community. As they had never felt seal skin, polar bear skin or caribou hides, the visitors wanted to learn more about the usage of the material. “The elders enjoyed the visit and especially the willingness of the soldiers to learn,” said principal Brian Manning. “They even took away samples of the bearskin and pictures of their visit.” photo courtesy of Brian Manning
