Organized annually by the Aurora Arts Society, the creative competition challenges entrants to submit a work of art composed of 80-percent or more of recycled materials. MacLean submitted a fully-functional radio composed entirely of discarded and recycled materials.

Artists hoping to compete with MacLean can register their artworks and drop them off at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre care-of contest co-ordinator Rae Braden. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, Sept. 8.

"Trashformation entries will be displayed along side submissions at the Aurora Arts Society's Artsweek exhibition," Braden said.

Both exhibits will open at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre beginning on Friday, Sept. 10 to coincide with the beginning of the society's seventh annual Artsweek events.

Artsweek is scheduled to run until Sept. 26. The festival program includes film screenings, panel discussions and artist demonstrations.

Watch for posters this week for more information about Artsweek events. For the complete Trashformation Art Contest guidelines, visit the society's website or Facebook page.
