hi - the Deh Cho Bridge is the first of its kind in the grand north - across the mighty great Mackenzie River (the Deh Cho, 'big river' in our language) - we will miss the ferry next spring but will enjoy the crossing the last time this summer & fall...that will be part of our history

I went to Sir John Franklin High School in the late 60s, early 70s. I dated a fellow named Jim Lizinski*, but in my stupidity i walked away from the most kindest and gentlemen i had ever known. He is in my heart now for over 40yrs.Not a day goes by, I Don't think of him, If anyone knows his whereabouts, ask him to write jlizinski@yahoo.com I would like to say, I am sorry for the day I never wrote you back to respond to the letter you wrote me. I wish the drivers in YK would wake up before driving, every day someone trys something stupid down town. driving in YK is not at all like driving in Edmonton, different rules all together and not very smart people. If someone hits my truck I'm going to make sure it's the other drivers fault and their insurance will pay not mine.BAD DRIVERS IN YK BEWARE.

Hello Yellowknife, from Timmins, Ontario. I am so looking forward to working and living in your City within the next 6 mths. I am a 40 year old, Registered Practical Nurse and am currently updating my resume to send to different employers in Yellowknife. I currently work as an Advanced Nursing Foot Care Nurse alongside 3 Chiropodists and am self-employed. I've worked in a Family Health Team as well for 3 years and prior to that in a Long Term Care Facility for 13 years. I have been researching your City, on things to see and do, and so far I love everything you have to offer. I am an avid outdoors person; camping, skiing, snowmobiling, stargazing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and so forth, and you guys have all that there and more. You actually sold me on WalMart and Tim Hortons. My 2 favourite places to go! If anyone would like to contact me to let me know more about your City or Job Opportunities, it would greatly be appreciated. Or you can be one of my first friends in Yellowknife. I am single, therefore I would like to meet a friend to show me around the City and let me know which places to go shopping at and eating at. Stuff like that! I'm pretty down to Earth too. Thanks for letting me write a little about myself. Hope to see you all soon! Liz Kadziolka

Amazing where events in life can lead you. My name is Dennis Morris and I am a 62 year old driver who has been off the road for a year taking care of personal matters. Lately I have become intrigued with the Ice Road Truckers TV show. Seeing I am re-activating my AZ I am seriously considering looking into the Ice Road Challenge. O.K. so a year off has left my finances in turmoil. Ha Ha, All this has really sparked an interest in visiting the North even if I was not driving. But I would really like to see if I could hack it out there in the wilderness of ice and snow. I wonder what is the best way of going about connecting with companies up there. Maybe I will do the Canada411.ca search and start calling. Anybody have any ideas? By the way I joined the Ice Road Community blog and you can see my profile there. Let me know if you think I can hack it? Here is my blog link... Ice Road Community

Headrick refused to listen to an old friend of mine about the lady's pets in HIS trailer. She was his renter and told him the dog would likely be hiding behind the couch. He went to this person Headrick, twice, and told him. What was old Albert's response? "preliminary investigation revealed no pets" So why wasn't there a second investigation? Headrick had my friend arrested! The dog and rabbit died from smoke inhalation, so they could've been saved, that is, if the firefighters were properly outfitted and had listened the first time. Boy am I glad I don't live in such a backward "good ol buddy" town anymore! BOO on you Headrick. YOU SUCK.

Hello to you. I lived in YK for about a year in 86/87 and just had the most amazing experiences. One in particular, made your newspaper's front page in November of '87. Myself and my then boss, Hans went through the ice on a lake (forget which one) and I wound up in hospital for ten days with frostbite. nobody here believes me when I recount the tale so I was wondering if any back issues of the paper or at least that story were available for purchase. please contact me at the above email if so. wishing you well and with fond memories of one of the best places I have ever travelled to, David Faulkner.

To Mike Bryant. The mystery of the "Big Fish" is not a mystery at all Mike! When I came up here in 1968 to work at Giant Mine, I bumped into an old Scottish guy one night at the 'Range. He told me about a monster fish in Great Slave Lake and it even had a name - Wee Nessie. Apparently, this guy had smuggled an offspring of the famous Loch Ness Monster into Yellowknife in 1950 and had plunked this baby monster into the Lake somewhere near Snowdrift. I don't know if he was putting me on or not, but now that I have read your story in this morning's 'Yellowknifer', I think his story must be true!!! Kindest Regards Tom Brown Mary Murphy House Yellowknife, NWT.

Dear Sir, My friend in Germany is writing a book on unique building structures. And in this regard she is looking for information on Nakasuk School. In particular she is interested in the impressions by a teacher who worked there for years. Maybe one, who remember the first days in there. And a teacher, who are working in there for a short time. And how the kids who attend the school how they like the building. Their impressions as about the builing, what they like or dislike about the structure. If you or any of your readers could help me get more information on this matter it would be greatly appreciated. Please email me at futuro@mts.net or write. THANK YOU The families of Victor Allen, Delma and Asta Kisoun-Hind, and Isaac Shingatok would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped us through our incredible time of sorrow. There are simply too many people and organizations to list without missing someone. We don’t want to leave one person out who helped ease our pain. Quyanuq for every shoulder we cried on, Musi-cho for every morsel of food brought over to mom’s, every call, every card, thank you for every prayer, every email, every dollar donated to the search, every person who helped us look for our dad and Isaac, everyone who loaned us equipment, every can of gas donated, every hour volunteered with the funerals, thank you for the beautiful crosses, every meal prepared, every flower we received, every hug given, every kind thought. No item was too big or too small. There is not enough room in the Mackenzie River to hold our appreciation. You held us up when we could have fallen. You helped us understand loss. Your soothing words eased the ache we felt to our bones. Know that God dwells in your heart. We respect you deeply for your humanity. God bless and be well. The Allen/Kisoun family

I've got to tell ya, since your town was unknown to me before the History Channel. I've fallen in love with your town. The Ice Road Truckers may have brought me to it but the love and compassion kept me interested. You have a lovely town and should be proud of it's heritage. Believe me most of us in the U.S. are envy of you. I've read everything I could find about Yellowknife and how at 55 years old I only wish I was thirty again. I'd be headed that way in a heart beat. Your picture of Jesse McDiarmid (who I don't know) with her 2 middle fingers elevated at the cameraman is not good journalism. What is the message here? The gesture is one of a person who is in terrible personal pain or under the influence or both. It is the broadcast of someone who needs to be helped or incarcerated or both. Distributing images of someone's raw pain or anger does not assist in better informing the public, and ranks up there with pics of Saddam's hanging in pandering to the aggrieved public's anger. When this person leaves prison or counselling, they will live with this image in the minds of family and potential employers for the rest of their lives. This image will be burned into public consciousness forever. Shame on you!

If you have northern magazines, northern story books, northern posters, northern postcards, northern pictures, northern homemade clothing that is collecting dust in your closet or basement and need to unload. Please know that these items will be used as a tool of educating for children in the south. I will only except the things that will look presentable. I have been looking at editions of News/North & Yellowknifer on microfilm from the 1950's-1980's, and read about Yellowknife's 21st Birthday celebration, Yellowknife becoming N.W.T's captial, and the Keep Right sign with the arrow pointing left. The Christmas editions have very nice Christmas Greetings, the initial reason I was looking at the microfilms. Hopefully, I will be able to visit Canada's N.W.T. someday.

You had on these striped pants they sort of looked like jammies, but they werent and you also had on this brown fringed jacket...I thought you looked so cool and I was telling all my friends ..yeap hes my brother. The reason Im telling you this is......I GET TO SEE THE ROLLING STONES TOMORROW AND YOU DONT!!!!!hahahah and I thought maybe you dressed the way you did..because the ROLLING STONES dressed that way in the 1970's. Anyway...I won my tickets from a radio contest and I will be thinking of you and all my friends... when I see the ROLLING STONES at 6:00pm tomorrow!!!!! Its only rock and roll but I like it! Hello :-) I am urgently looking for a guy from the Mackenzie River area (I know it is a huge area!). He is 35 - 45 years, has brown curly hair and left in 1996 to study in Toronto. He received a grant and studied either science or medicine. After he graduated he returned to his native area and settled in a town. He has a lot of good ideas and is trying to get funding to implement them. He should be well known by people in the area. If you know anybody who suits this description fully or partly please do not hesitate to let me know his name and possibly e-mail address. If you have any ideas regarding how I could search for him somewhere else please tell me. It is very important for me to find him and I thank you very much in advance for any help. Every time I see pictures of ships docked in Cambridge-Bay I get that funny sinkin feeling..Once when I was 12 I decided to surprise my grandparents with fresh meat.while they slept I took my rifle that my grampa gave me when I was 8 and decided to go hunting.I didnt get very far when I seen my animal, it was down by the ships.the ships were frozen in the ice for the winter...I started shooting but I could hear this ping, ping, ping. After 13 shots I got my animal, it was gross I couldnt even tell what it was..but I tied a noose around it and went home to wake my grandparents. I woke them up and said close your eyes ,I have a surprise for you.My grampa came outside and I showed him my kill...he had this puzzled look and said to me "we dont eat fox" I was a little disappointed because I did all that work for nothing. A few minutes later the R.C.M.P came and told my grampa I wasnt allowed to hunt ever again and my grampa asked why? the R.C.M.P said your daughter was hunting in town. only then I realized the ping, ping, ping was my bullets hitting the ships frozen in the ice! I was scared the whole time thinking what if I sank the ship? I never did go hunting ever again! ENJOY!

Well down here its getting light out a 6 am. The price of gas is down under .75 cents a liter. Snow is melting and the U.S. border is less than an hour away. So after the whistle had blown Tootoo skates behind the net and slashes the goalie in the neck with his stick WHATS UP WITH THAT? Sounds like the good old south and big money finally got to him. Have a nice day. Ron.

Hey listen, wouldn't it be great if youth had summercamps to go to to develop or learn skills in traditional sewing, arctic sports, drum dancing, throat singing, singing ayaya songs, something similiar to summercamps like the south going to summer camps for hockey school.we need to help our youth keep our culture alive.

This week on Suaangan: Ep. 16 State of the Art. Airdate: Jan. 19, Jan. 21 They started their musical careers as the Earaches, a ragtag lot of brothers prone to screaming air guitar solos and mid air theatrics. One day they actually plugged in and discovered electricity. Voted best band in Winnipeg in 2003, State of the Art's blistering brand of heavy metal is rattling the brains of fans from Tuktoyuktuk to Tuscalusa. Suaangan caught up with the boys just as they were about blow the doors off the Picadilly Pub in Vancouver BC.
