Welcome to Cambridge Bay, our little hometown is very busy now that summer is on its way. Yes, we still have ice but it is melting.

The sun has decided to stay now and making it very hot here. Not many puddles left in town, if there are the Municipal Services crew have been out with their equipment draining them.

Good news for people and our visitors to Cambridge Bay! The Mount Pelly road is being repaired with Hamlet crew grading, filling in holes, installing culverts and making the road a lot smoother! So nice to have the road repaired, it is one of the busiest roads in town besides the gravel pit road. So when you see the heavy equipment, slow down!

Also, town cleanup has started again, mostly big items are being hauled to the dumps by Julian and his crew. Any big items such as old snowmobiles, lumber, furniture or whatever will be picked up by Julian and his crew for hauling to the dumps. After all the big items are cleaned up, the annual cleanup will begin in town.

Every year our kids participate in garbage cleanup and get paid $2 a bag! Wow! Great way for our kids to earn money. Some kids can make $300 or more with town cleanup. Also we see that the "Many Pebbles Golf Course" is now ready with the flags and cups out for our golfers. Also the swimming pool will open July 1! Yippee! Kids can go swimming again.

Now that school is out our youth are busy working at their summer jobs already! Everywhere you go, you can see smiling energetic youth working for the summer. It is so nice to see them happy and earning their own income. Today there are so many opportunities for our youth with training and employment out there, in town or out of town such as out at the mining camps.

Our Elders are also very busy. This week 12 Elders are heading out to IKALOKTOK Wellington Bay to continue their "Oral History Project" with archeologist Dr. Max Friesen from the University of Toronto. The Elders will be flying out by helicopter! How lucky! They will be pitching up tents at IKALOKTOK just like the olden days.

IKALOKTOK is one of the ancient areas where Inuit lived 3-5,000 years ago. God bless them. To learn more about the oral history of our people in this area and the Pre-Dorset Inuit and farther back in history, you are most welcome to visit the Kitikmeot Heritage Centre where there is a display of artifacts, photographs and stories told by our Elders. The artifacts are replicas of the original ones found at IKALOKTOK.

Well this is all I have for now from Cambridge Bay. Enjoy your summer everyone. Remember to help clean up our town and clean up your yards!
