Tyhee announces summer drilling program

Tyhee Development Corp. has started its summer drilling program, just shy of $2 million, at its Clan Lake Yellowknife gold project, some 90 km north of the city, said the company's president and CEO.

David Webb said the program will last approximately two months and focus on exploration and expansion. He added the program will create 10 jobs and employment for four support staff.

"We're confident that there's all kinds of potential," he said.

"I can't say that we have millions and millions of ounces but we hope to find that amount. We intend to just keep drilling until we find the limits of the mineralization that we identified."

The company also announced that Roger Sylvestre, one of the company's founders, is retiring.

"He's been in the business for 50 years. You do have to stop at some point. I think he's just going to enjoy his retirement," said Webb.

Yk chamber to hold AGM next week

The Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual general meeting at the Yellowknife Inn on June 18 from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m and its presidents ball has been moved to the fall. The event is for the approximately 375 members of the chamber.

"Our new president gets elected at the end of June and then we don't meet in July and August so it just makes more sense to swear him in, in September," said Ellie Sasseville, the chamber's executive director.

The annual report and the elections of the chamber's directors and officers will happen June 18. The business awards will be presented in the fall.

NWT mining week

A community barbecue will be held on Saturday to mark NWT Mining Week, which takes place from June 6 to 12.

"We're just giving back to the community," said Cheryl Wourms, the NWT and Nunavut Chamber of Mines office manager. "We're hoping for good weather and a good turnout."

Other events include the mine rescue competition and gold panning demonstration.
