Peregrine announces new Baffin exploration camp
Peregrine Diamonds Ltd. plans to mount an exploration camp at its Chidliak site, located 85 kilometres northeast of Iqaluit, this summer.
The $3 million project will aim to find diamonds, platinum and other minerals by bedrock mapping, soil sampling and aerial surveying.
Approximately 15 people will be hired, including some local people, to work at the camp.
"All (our) Baffin Island projects have generated considerable interest even within the exploration community," said Peter Holmes, vice-president of explorations.
KIA will be MIA for port and road hearings
Kugluktuk/Coppermine
The Kitikmeot Inuit Association has learned from Indian and Northern Affairs that it is ineligible to take part in a review of the Bathurst Inlet port and road project.
INAC said the KIA's ownership of the Kitikmeot Corp. and its stake in Nuna Logistics would make it a conflict of interest.
KIA president Donald Havioyak disagrees.
"We don't make decisions for the Kitikmeot Corp.," Havioyak said. "They have their own board. "We just want to be a part of the process."
The KIA is appealing to the minister of INAC to reverse the decision.

The Deh Cho Business Development Centre is looking to build attendance at its weekly video conference sessions.
Each week people can access an average of three sessions for free at the centre, said Todd Noseworthy, the general manager. The sessions cover a variety of business-related topics for people with all levels of business experience.
"There should be something there for everybody," Noseworthy said.

The additions come as the company celebrates 10 years of Inuit and Inuvialuit ownership.
Metis-Dene business fund gets big boost
The Metis-Dene Development fund - aimed at providing a source of financing for owners of small- and medium-sized businesses in the NWT - has received an investment of $1.6 million from Indian and Northern Affairs.
The money will allow the fund to extend its reach to non-aboriginal businesses, said board chair Jake Heron.
"It also helps us to provide an added stream of financing to business owners in communities where there are no banks or credit unions," he added.
