Business Briefs Andrew Livingstone E-mail: business@nnsl.com Monday, November 23, 2009 Previous columns Movies on demand from home Movie lovers in Yellowknife can now choose from hundreds of titles, new and old, with the recent expansion of NorthwesTel's video-on-demand service. As part of MGM Studios 85th anniversary, NorthwesTel will be releasing hundreds of new and classic movies from both MGM and Warner Brothers, many of which have never been available through the video on demand service. "The selection of content is incredibly diverse," said Curtis Shaw, vice-president of consumer and small business for NorthwesTel. "This is truly something for everyone." Video on demand is an interactive service allowing customers to order from an ever-changing library of movies 24/7. Visit NorthwesTel's website for information. Uranium mining innovation The Yellowknife branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining will host a guest speaker on Dec. 3 at the Prince of Wales Heritage Centre. Egin Ozber, vice-president of innovation and technology development for Cameco, a Saskatoon-based uranium mining company, will be giving a presentation entitled "innovation and uranium mining from a Canadian perspective," as part of the 2009-2010 distinguished lecture series. The presentation begins at 7 p.m. LINX conference registration Registration for the seventh biannual LINX Conference is underway, to be held in Yellowknife on Dec. 2 and 3 at the Explorer Hotel. The conference, Strengthening Northern Practises to Build Stronger Communities, brings together the public and private sectors in all areas of career development and client services.
