Welcome to Cambridge Bay, especially to all our visitors who will be attending the Kitikmeot Inuit Association AGM here in Cambridge Bay, and also to those who will be attending workshops. Welcome Josie!

Winter has been nicely settling in with snow and the ice forming on the bay and ocean. Looks so pretty this time of the year. Lately we have had so much snowfall that the snowmobilers are out now, not quite on the bay and ocean yet, as it is still dangerous. The sun peeks out daytime which is nice, in the afternoons it starts to get dark around after 5 p.m., supper hour. Make sure your kids are safe and out of dark areas, there are sometimes loose dogs, so watch your kids when they are playing outside. You never know what might happen.

There are wolves close to town due to the caribou around, please be very careful when walking, carry a stick.

Halloween coming up and everyone, especially the kids, are really getting excited for the big day. Every year kids and their parents go out trick or treating around town with their vehicles, Ski-Doos and walking. Be sure to be ready around suppertime because some start trick or treating early and we don't want to turn them down, this is their day! Bless them all, even though it's cold out there they still happy and excited to go out. You see some really scary looking faces painted up, funny ones, and popular cartoon character ones also, probably see lots of Dora the Explorer outfits and Diago and Spiderman ones. This year the Halloween activities like hot chocolate and parade will be announced. Please watch for posters and announcements as to where and what will be happening halloween night! Boo! Have fun and be safe everyone. Remember to share and always remember to brush your teeth after having treats and before bedtime.

The Cambridge Bay Childcare Society is busy as ever with the little kiddies and the child care workers. The kids learn so much while at daycare. They learn Innuinaqtut, singing, alphabet, cultural teaching like drum dancing, history of life Inuit lifestyle in the old days, they even sing at the local radio station once in a while, they learn to write, learn new words, all at the age of two! So cute, my grandson Felix goes and he sure is learning fast. I love hearing kids being happy. It seems like my son Julian is back there again cause he sure looks like his dad and his dad went to daycare when he was two years old in 1990-91. When I ask my Ingutak about daycare, he smiles and laughs and says, "Babies." He loves his new friends and the workers there. So proud of him growing up so fast along with the other kids; he is so proud of his friends. They have healthy snacks, naps, sing, play, and all. The centre is so well managed and is very, very clean, and that is so important. Kids even brush their teeth and learn how to brush their teeth there, too. They have lots of beautiful toys, tables, chairs, everything well equipped. It's really comforting to see a well operated daycare with dedicated and caring and loving child care workers. We as parents always wonder about our kids and if they are being well taken care of and here in Cambridge Bay, they really are looked after well. If there was to be an award given, the staff at this child care centre well deserve it! We are so proud of you all and koana for all you do for our kids. God bless.

We have an active, happy group. Without education, life would be very difficult. Once again the daycare is holding its annual daycare dinner and auction on Nov. 14. Staff are busy receiving donations from local businesses and also from the airlines, etc. This year Canadian North has tickets for two to Edmonton return, and First Air has tickets for two to Yellowknife return, along with many crafts, jewelry, and cash prizes also, and many more. Anyone wishing to help fundraise by donating auction items or cash donations, please feel free to contact Bonnie at the Childcare Centre here in Cambridge Bay. Good luck, tickets are available from the centre also for this event. Come out and support our child care centre. Fundraise to help with operating costs and also in the future to get a bigger daycare centre possibly with a gym area in it. Their next daycare board meeting will likely be after the auction is held in later November. Good luck and koana Bonnie and the workers for all your support and love to the kids there. God bless.

Yes Christmas is coming around very soon and every year Cambridge Bay has their annual Christmas Bazaar, the best shopping in town and the most fun besides the daycare dinner and auction. This year the bazaar is being held on Nov. 28 at the Luke Novoligak Community Hall. To book a table please contact our very own recreation co-ordinator Robert Maksagak. Nice to get your Christmas shopping gifts early. They also have tea, coffee, refreshments for our Elders and all. Hope to see you there. Everyone start baking, sewing, carving, and all that.

This is all for now and here are some greetings:

To my wonderful mother Margaret Rose Carpenter, happy birthday Momma, love ya and miss you dearly, lots of love, your daughter Corrine, Fred and especially your grandson Sidney for Oct. 23. Koana!

"I want to remember my mom, who passed on suddenly on Oct. 31, 1993. She loved Halloween, loved giving out candy, and she would ask the kids to do a "trick" or "sing a song" for their treat, and most kids didn't but some kids were playful and did. She used to dress up and laugh at herself so hard, and even harder at other costumes. This month has been the hardest, as I miss her more this year! Look down on us mom and know we love you! God bless and keep you! Xoxoxoxo."

Hello to all our family and friends across Nunavut. Congratulations to our son Byron and Vennesa on having our first grandchild Jason Drew in Taloyoak from Dean and Kathy Meyer.
