    NWT NEWS/NORTH - It was a wet ending to the 2008 slo-pitch season in rainy Norman Wells. Matco took the title, defeating North Wright in the final with a score of 18-7 on Aug. 24.

    NWT NEWS/NORTH - Fort Smith carver Justin Wandering Spirit taught himself to carve at age 23. "It was something I wanted to do so I just picked a buffalo for the first thing to try and I just carved it," he said. "It took me way too long but I sold that one to ITI (Industry, Tourism and Investment). They have my first piece in their office in Fort Smith."

    Delta residents express disappointment
    over prime minister's visit

    NWT NEWS/NORTH - Delta residents gave Prime Minister Stephen Harper a warm welcome to the North, but many are expressing disappointment with his announcements. Before his arrival on Tuesday evening in Inuvik there was open speculation that Harper was coming to announce new infrastructure for Delta communities.

    Police tape was up at Fishermen's Wharf in Hay River on Saturday, Aug. 23, during the investigation into the drowning death of Iain Richardson of Eureka, Alta.

    Man confirmed drowned in Hay River
    NWT NEWS/NORTH - Police have confirmed the accidental drowning in Hay River of Iain Richardson, 42, of Eureka, Alta. Richardson was working as a fisherman at the town's Fishermen's Wharf when he was found dead in the water in the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 23.
