News/North is now two separate publications

Established in 1945, News/North covered the 61 communities comprising the Northwest Territories, a 1,400.000 square mile region north of the 60th parallel. The region comprised the present Northwest Territories, plus the area which, in April 1999, became the new territory of Nunavut. Since then, News/North has evolved into two separate publications, each serving its respective territory. (Map of NWT/Nunavut showing boundaries).

NWT News/North is circulated in all 33 NWT communities and reports on activities throughout the region. It is headquartered in Yellowknife, with other NWT bureaus in Inuvik, Simpson and Hay River and contributing writers from a number of communities . Published weekly on Mondays

NWT News/North combines hard hitting journalism with a warm interest and concern for Nunavut people and interests. In every issue you will find human interest features, profiles, community news, photo features, knowledgeable Northern columnists, NWT news and feature reports, superb photographic images and provocative editorials.

Departmental editors produce sections for NWT Sports, Arts & Entertainment, Business & Labour. Frequently special supplements providing an in-depth look at some facet of Northern life. Among the special issues are issues on Construction, NWT Mining, Oil&Gas and Opportunities North which provides an all-industry overview of business and employment opportunities in NWT and Nunavut.

For detailed information on feature issues click specialized publications. News/North is recognized as one of the better community newspapers in Canada in its circulation class and has been a consistent winner in regional and national Better Newspaper competitions.
