Lightning fast action was on display during the Tennis NWT winter tournament last weekend as participants displayed their prowess on the indoor courts.

The four-day event at the Yellowknife Fieldhouse drew 25 participants who played a total of 30 scheduled matches, said Slavica Jovic, tournament organizer.

“Our summer (season) was cut short because of the wildfires, however, the tennis activities resumed in October because we offer programming throughout the winter,” Jovic said of the indoor event.

“This is our third annual winter tournament. We run it typically during the holiday season because it provides an opportunity for members to play and be active during the holidays,” she said.

One of the highlights of the competition was having several novice players participating this year.

Another highlight was that two members, Tamara Jovic and Teresa Martin, were home for the holidays and also took part in the event, Slavica said.

“They played in the tournament in ladies’ doubles and won their matches. Tamara is playing tennis for the University of Calgary Dinos team and Teresa Martin is playing tennis for Dalhousie University.”
