Is council right to back off on insulation rules?
Construction companies say the city is
jumping the gun on a bylaw that requires
higher insulation standards when people are
renovating their homes. They say the new
rule will double the cost of insulating homes
and goes beyond what the national building
code requires. The city says the new insulation
requirements will help conserve heat
and reduce greenhouse gases. City council
listened to the companies' complaints and
decided to suspend the requirement for two
years. Was this the right thing to do?
City council should stop interfering with people's homes
City Council needs to concentrate on matters that directly affect all
citizens of YK, not second guess national building standards! If they could
put half the time they spent on debating frivolous and personal matters like
the idling bylaw and interfering with person's homes and decisions to
upgrade them, we might have a cleaner city instead of private citizens
having to take it upon themselves to pick up garbage around town. I can't
believe it! Don't they know what their job is?
