Isuma showcase in Toronto

Thirty years of Iglulik Inuit video art from Isuma, Arnait and Artcirq will be on exhibit at the 2017

imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival in Toronto, Oct. 16 to 21.

"This anniversary presents an opportunity to take a look at what has been accomplished over the years. Isuma has contributed a incomparable body of work to contemporary Inuit visual culture," said curator Isabella-Rose Weetaluktuk.

Atanarjuat, Journals of Knud Rasmussen, Before Tomorrow and Maliglutit are some of the better-known movies to come out of Iglulik, but there will be more than 40 films on hand. Isuma's 13-part TV series "Nunavut (Our Land)" will play throughout the exhibition.

In addition to the video, stitching, beading, bags, jackets, pants, blankets, photographs and soapstone carvings will be on display.
