LETTER: Event brought churches together

From: Niels Jeyasegara,
One Heart Yellowknife

Dear editor,

One Heart Yellowknife is an inter-church ministry and what we do is go to different churches monthly and put on worship and prayer nights. We have done this at the following churches in Yellowknife for the past two years: Yellowknife Vineyard Christian Fellowship; Yellowknife Alliance Church; Yellowknife Church of Christ; Calvary

An event called One Heart in the Park took place on Sunday, June 24 at Somba K'e park. A live worship service at 6 p.m. was just over an hour long, bringing area churches together to worship right in the heart of our city. photo courtesy of Niels Jeyasegara

Community Church; Holy Trinity Anglican Church; Cornerstone Pentecostal Church; and Tlicho Christian Fellowship (in Behchoko).

We are believers in Jesus Christ and we come together monthly to worship him and what a privilege it is that we can do this together as multiple churches.

Last year, we had an event called One Heart in the Park which took place on Sunday, Aug. 27 and this year we did it again Sunday, June 24 at Somba K'e park.

We started off with a prayer walk where we walked around our downtown area and prayed over the city. Then we had a live worship service at 6 p.m. which was just over an hour long. During that time we concurrently had face painting for the kids, a bouncy castle and we gave away free hamburgers and hotdogs. The Gideon's Bible organization was there and they handed out over 75 Bible's free of charge.

A few hundred people attended and we had approximately 35 volunteers serving to make this possible.

The highlight of the event was seeing the churches of Yellowknife coming together to worship right in the heart of our city. The most important part was when the Gospel message was shared about

Jesus Christ and the good news about his death and resurrection and our need for salvation.

That we need to have a relationship with Jesus, be forgiven of our sins and that he is our Lord and Saviour. After the Gospel message was shared, the question was asked if anyone would like to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour and we saw a few hands going up as people responded and made a commitment to follow Jesus for the rest of their lives.

It was such a powerful time as it was an uplifting experience for the churches to come together and worship and also for it to be a blessing to the community.
