RCMP locate overdue person

RCMP responded to a search and rescue approximately 40 km outside of Inuvik and successfully located the overdue hunter and returned him to Inuvik Tuesday, Nov. 7.

A family member had notified the RCMP the previous Monday that the hunter had not been heard from and was suspected to have headed toward Husky Lakes, between Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk.

The RCMP worked in partnership with the Inuvik ground search-and-rescue team, CASARA, and Canadian Helicopters to locate the man at a camp in good health. The hunter returned with the search team to Inuvik and reunited with his family.

Police are using the incident to encourage people on the land to be mindful of ice conditions, as there are still large areas of open water and thin ice in the territories.

"Always tell someone where you are going, how you are getting there and when you expect to be back," stated the RCMP in a news release.
