SPORTS CHECK: Seniors take to the floor

With Junior Super Soccer over for another year, the focus turns now to Senior Super Soccer, which gets underway on May 2 in Yellowknife.

Along with the teams from Yellowknife, there are teams making the trip from Hay River, Inuvik, Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Lutsel K'e, Norman Wells and Fort Liard and they will be joined by Coral Harbour, Rankin Inlet and Gjoa Haven from Nunavut.

The Yellowknife teams will be in action to start off on May 2 with the community teams joining in as the tournament goes on. The championship games are set to happen on May 6.

Last dance for Team Koe

Kevin Koe's current rink played for the last time this weekend in Calgary at the Champions Cup, which wrapped up on April 29.

They got off on the wrong foot in the opening draw on April 24, dropping a 6-3 decision to Jason Gunnlaugson of Manitoba. Next up was Kurt Balderston of Alberta the next day, which ended in a 6-5 win. Those games were followed by a game against Glenn Howard of Ontario on April 26 and Mike McEwen of Manitoba on April 27 to wrap up the round-robin.

Uniform proposals wanted

Team NT is getting ready for the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta., and Sport North is looking for a company or group to handle its walkout gear.

The request for proposals for the gear went out on April 26 with Bill Othmer, the chef de mission for Team NT, saying there will be roughly 250 uniforms required for the athletes, coaches and mission staff.

Team NT will competing in several sports such as hockey, speedskating, biathlon and cross-country skiing at the Games.
