Tennis gets a glimpse of the future

No time like the present to see what you have coming down the hatch in terms of the future when it comes to tennis.A group of 10 young players between the ages of eight through 14 and all from Yellowknife hit the courts at the Yellowknife Tennis Club for Tennis NWT's third annual high performance camp.

Tennis NWT hosted its third annual high performance camp at the Yellowknife Tennis Club earlier this month. The participants were, in front, Alexana Kapraelian, middle row from left, Ofira Duru and Benjamin Naugler; back row from left, coach Leo Jourard, Madelaine Kapraelian, Oleta Duru, Cole Clinton, Andrew Carr, Ethan Carr, Monika Kunderlik, Adam Naugler and coach Tamara Jovic. photo courtesy of Slavica Jovic

They were put through their paces by Leo Jourard, who's made the trip up from Toronto to be the head pro this season at the club, and Tamara Jovic, a former pupil at this camp.

“Tamara (is now) a certified instructor (who) used to be part of this camp and is now helping coach young players,” said Slavica Jovic with Tennis NWT.

The camp featured plenty of work on ground strokes, serving and proper game play along with seeing who could make the jump to the next level.

Slavica Jovic said this camp was used for next year's Western Canada Summer Games in Saskatchewan.

“There are some players who could feature on Team NT’s roster,” she said.
