U.S.-based firm to oversee Giant mine remediation project

A California-based firm will oversee the Giant mine's remediation project after being named construction manger by the federal government, according to the Canadian Institute of Mining Magazine.

Parsons Corporation, a company that provides engineering and construction services to government agencies and private clients alike, will dish out $32 million in remediation "care and maintenance" over a two year period, the release from CIM Magazine states.

Parsons landed the role following a bidding process that began in February of 2017.

The company will head the application of the remediation plan during the project's second term. The cost of its implementation is still undetermined, but the feds have previously pegged its price tag at up to $1 billion.

Parsons worked at the Giant mine site, which operated from 1948 until its shuttering in 1999, in 2014, helming the removal of arsenic at the mine.
