Wearing a mask is now mandatory inside Yellowknife’s two liquor stores, as of Friday.

“We introduced it because of the presumed (Covid) cases,” said Jaida Brunet, manager of the Stanton Plaza liquor shop, referring to the three presumptive positive Covid infections announced on Friday morning.

“The government had input on the decision and it approved it, but it was mostly ourselves who made the decision. We’re doing our best to protect everyone and our staff at this time.”

The Yellowknife Downtown Liquor Store also announced the new mask policy in a Facebook post on Friday.

The stores join other Yellowknife retail outlets such as Staples, Walmart and Yellowknife’s two Independent Grocers in introducing mandatory masking.
