Northwest Territories Tourism recognizes industry accomplishments

Industry accomplishments were recognized during a recent conference hosted by Northwest Territories Tourism.

The 21st annual event, held in Inuvik, NWT from Nov. 1 to 3, saw awards dolled out to worthy candidates in various categories. With a theme of "Take the High Road," the gathering aimed to spur a discussion about the tourism opportunities tied to the new highway, as stated in a release from NWTT Monday.

According to the release, the event also focused on boosting the tourism industry's contribution to the economy of the Northwest Territories, with a goal of adding $235 million by 2021.

The following awards were presented during the two day conference:

  • GNWT Parks Hospitality Award: Lucy Simon, camp attendant at Sambaa Deh Territorial Park. 
  • Service Excellence Award: Mary Tapsell, Guide for My Backyard Tours.
  • Operator of the Year: Yellow Dog Lodge
  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Marion Lavigne

The conference also acted as a venue to determine new board members.
