Name: Julie Green

Age: 58

Work experience: Six years in the non-profit sector 2009-2015 as director of community relations for YWCA NWT and as a fundraising and communications consultant for a variety of non-profits; 16 years with CBC Radio covering resource development prior to that. I have a Masters degree in Journalism and a Masters degree in History.

Family status: Married, one adult child

Why I am running? I want to continue the work I started as a regular MLA in the last assembly. My focus is economic diversification, including improved infrastructure for tourism (territorial parks and a visitor centre in Yellowknife), investments in retrofitting buildings and investments in child care. These investments will have other benefits such as creating jobs. Once feasibility studies and business cases are complete, I would like to see the Slave Geological Province and the Taltson Hydro Expansion projects forwarded to environmental assessment to begin the conversation about the pros and cons of their development. I would like to see continued development of the polytechnic university and a new campus in Yellowknife. I want to see affordable housing for seniors who now face long waiting lists, along with a robust day program for seniors with both cognitive issues and frailty, and expanded home care services for seniors who want to age in place. It's important to lower the cost of living through the expansion of retrofit program which will save on heat and power costs (and reduce our GHG emissions). I want to see a safe a vibrant downtown where programming at the sobering centre is strengthened, and the centre has positive relationships with its neighbors. Everyone should feel safe where they live and work.
