James Colosimo, 31, of Hay River has been charged with murder in connection with an 18-year-old woman who was found dead at a Hay River residence Wednesday.

Police say that Colosimo was apprehended shortly after officers arrived at the scene Sept. 9. He is expected to appear in territorial court on Sept. 14.

RCMP went to the residence and discovered the deceased victim.

Further investigation resulted in the Hay River RCMP arresting the accused shortly afterwards.

The NT RCMP Major Crimes Unit, NT RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Police Dog Services were all involved in the investigation.

“At this time, the RCMP are not looking for other suspects, and this is believed to be an isolated incident,” stated the Sept. 10 news release.

On Sept. 10, crime scene tape surrounded a McBryan Drive house, which was being guarded by an officer sitting in a police car in the driveway.

Julie Plourde, the media relations officer with the ‘G’ Division of the RCMP in Yellowknife, could not provide any further details on the incident.

That includes no information on the cause of death and whether the victim and accused knew each other.

“At this time, it’s under investigation so we wouldn’t be able to release that,” said Plourde.

The NWT Coroner Service is also assisting the RCMP with the investigation, which is still ongoing.
