Welcome to Hockey Nights in Cambridge Bay. Once again, our youth and adult hockey leagues have once again started up. We now have minor hockey and senior hockey leagues, and kids in the community are so happy and excited to play and learn to play hockey. All hockey games are held at the old arena, located next door to the community hall. Approximately 20-45 minor hockey kids have signed up. There is equipment and skates available for those unable to equip their players. We're short of all sizes of left/right hockey sticks for our minor hockey players and probably will need some helmets.

So happy for the kids to be able to play hockey in our growing community. Support the kids in minor hockey. Senior hockey has a few adult players. The local arena will be busy and noisy once again. Good luck to all hockey players of Cambridge Bay.

The community is growing so much and we now have buildings and houses towards water lake. We have a beautiful Nunavut Arctic College and a beautiful science centre known as the Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS). So we have many new residents moving to the community for work and for college. We have a busy airport with daily airline services operated by Canadian North serving the Kitikmeot and service south to Yellowknife and Edmonton. Cambridge Bay is the hub of the Central Arctic, now known as the Kitikmeot region. In the Kivalliq region, the hub is Rankin Inlet. In the Baffin region, the hub is Iqaluit, which also is the capital city of Nunavut.

Weather in Cambridge Bay is usually coldest this time of the winter season, but lately it has been much milder with climate changes happening up north. We are experiencing changes that are different and odd at times. There is not much snow, as we saw in past years on the island and surrounding areas. The hunters are seeing many changes. Be safe when travelling and going out hunting and fishing or just going for a ride on your snowmobiles.

God Be With You Son. You have the most beautiful granddaughter, Tonokahak.
