A 29-year-old man is being sought after Hay River RCMP executed a search warrant last week that turned up several firearms.

According to police, the search happened on Feb. 14 at a residence on Woodland Drive and was based off of an alleged assault that happened at the same residence earlier this month. The subsequent investigation of that assault led police to believe that someone had been threatened with a firearm there.

The RCMP's Emergency Response Team helped officers in Hay River with the search and it turned up one long gun along with two pen guns, firearms which resemble an ink pen. Four people were detained at the scene during the search, but were released a short time later. The suspect in the case wasn't there and a warrant has now been issued for his arrest.

Herbert Pekok has been charged with pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon, possession of a weapon while knowing its possession is unauthorized, tampering with the serial number of a firearm, and unsafe storage of firearms.

Pekok is described as Indigenous, 5' 9" in height and weighing around 195 lbs.

If you know of Pekok's whereabouts, you're asked to call Hay River RCMP at 867-874-1111 or submit a tip online to Crime Stoppers at p3tips.com. If you see Pekok, do not approach him and contact police. If it's an emergency, call 911.
