Cambridge Bay RCMP responded to a call to a residence on July 7 at approximately 7:45 am, responding to a distraught man who was reported to have a firearm.
Police officers were able to establish a safe perimeter in the area of Okpik Street and contain the man within the residence. A “shelter in place” alert was issued, asking residents to stay away from the area.
By approximately 9:35 a.m., negotiations were successful and the suspect surrendered to police peacefully.
Following his arrest, Dodi Mala, 26, was charged with careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, carrying a firearm for the purpose of committing an offence, possession a firearm without a licence and two counts of uttering threats.
