There’s limited availability to see a physician at the Fort Smith Health Centre until July 24.
The news comes from a June 27 press release from the NWT Health and Social Services Authority. In it, they also note that a physician will be on call in-person or virtually around the clock for the emergency department.
“Healthcare providers will remain available to provide regular preventative care, chronic disease, and well child/family visits or to address urgent primary care concerns. Urgent and emergency care remains available,” the news release reads.
Residents needing medical advice can call 811 any time to speak with a registered nurse as well, it added.
“Fort Smith residents are also encouraged to check with their pharmacy to ensure they have available refills of existing prescriptions, and if not to notify primary care who will assist in processing new refills. Wait times may be longer than normal so please plan in advance.”
The Fort Smith Region serves the 2,400 residents, according to the NWT Health and Social Services Authority’s website.
Appointments with community health nurses are still available for non-urgent issues like a throat or earache.
