The carnage was inside and outside the ring during the Carnage in the Capital pro wrestling extravaganza held at the Explorer Hotel Wednesday evening.
Inuvik’s Totally Arctic Wrestling (TAW) superstars came strutting into town with superstars from Edmonton-based promotion Monster Pro Wrestling to show their prowess and outmanoeuver and tackle their opponents in a whirlwind five-match card.
Dez Loreen, aka Deztro the Eskimofo, the co-founder of TAW, said title matches were on the roster for the action-packed event.
“It's the first pro-wrestling event that TAW has done in Yellowknife, so people (could) expect a lot of action,” Loreen said prior to start time.
Deztro was set to square off with Massive Damage The Tattooed Terminator, the award winning Canadian Pro Wrestling Hall of Famer.
The other matches included Eli Surge vs. Levi Night; Precious Polly vs. The Matriarch; Nolerbear vs Mighty KC and the tag-team main event of Eli Surge and Mighty KC vs Nolerbear and Levi Night.
The crowd was pumped up during the action that saw some of the wrestlers cruise the aisles in anticipation of their match.
One Yellowknife family attending the evening’s entertainment was especially looking forward to one of the matches.
Quill and Jennifer Hunter and their children were there to see The Matriarch, as she is Quill’s sister.
“I think it’s cool and awesome,” Quill said of his sister’s fame in the wrestling ring. “I’m glad she found something that she loves to do."
Loreen said pro wrestling has a special appeal to audiences.
“I think it's a lot of the athleticism, the storytelling, the pageantry of it," he said. "I think it’s sort of like a larger-than-life moment where you get to just sort of lose yourself and people get to express themselves and yell and have a good time for one night.”
Here's some of the action that thrilled those in attendance.
