Yellowknife resident Leon Haniliak is $1 million richer thanks to his win on a Majestic scratch ticket.

It's going to be a very Merry Christmas for Leon Haniliak.

The Yellowknife resident is $1 million richer thanks to his win on a $10 Majestic scratch ticket recently. He bought the ticket at the Reddi Mart on 49 Street in downtown Yellowknife.

“I scratched the ticket at work,” stated Haniliak in a press release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation published Thursday. “I just sat there stunned.”

Haniliak said he's not sure what he'll do with his winnings yet, but he said it feels "surreal.

He's the latest winner of a seven-figure lottery prize. The last million-dollar lottery winners from Yellowknife were Bradley Perrault and Dana Martin, who copped a $1 million prize in the Aug. 20 Lotto Max drawing. They bought the ticket the day before the drawing while visiting family in Sherwood Park, Alta., just outside of Edmonton and matched all seven numbers on a bonus Max Millions drawing.
