A Fort Providence man has been charged after Deline RCMP intercepted crack cocaine and a drug suspected to be Gabapentin, which is a form of pain reliever.

On March 26, the police received information that two people were attempting to bring an excess quantity of alcohol into Deline.

Officers opened an investigation and were able to seize alcohol that was being transported on a flight. While officers were at the airport conducting the investigation into the alcohol, they located a third person who was on court-ordered conditions to remain in Yellowknife. This individual was arrested and during a subsequent search, the officers located 113 grams of crack cocaine and 13 grams of suspected Gabapentin.

John Minoza, 36, of Fort Providence, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and failure to comply with conditions of a release order. Minoza was held in jail pending a future court date.

No charges have been laid in connection with the alcohol at this time, the Mounties added.

Anyone who has information about drug trafficking or bootlegging is asked to contact the Deline RCMP at 867-589-1111 or Crime Stoppers at http://www.p3tips.com. In the event of an emergency call, 911.
