A manhunt is underway for a suspect in an Oct. 16 home invasion in Fort McPherson and a second suspect has been charged and ordered not to return to the community.
RCMP say they received a report of a break and enter into a residence on Oct. 16. The police arrested one individual in relation to the matter.
Information on the situation is limited as a publication ban has been issued on publishing details of the case. However, the second individual involved in the break and enter is still at large.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Abraham Stewart, of Fort McPherson. He is charged with assault with a weapon; two counts of forcible confinement; two counts of breaking, entering and committing an offence; two counts of robbery; mischief under $5,000; flight from a peace officer; and failure to comply with conditions of an undertaking.
“The RCMP asks anyone with information on his whereabouts not to approach him and to contact the detachment at 952-1111 or Crime Stoppers at http://www.p3tips.com. In the event of an emergency call, 911,” said NT RCMP media relations officer Const. Josh Seaward.
When questioned by NNSL media, Seaward said that Stewart is described as an “Indigenous male of slender build, 5’6” tall, and 132 lbs, with short black hair and brown eyes.”
Nathan Francis, 29, of Fort McPherson has been charged with two counts of breaking, entering and committing an offence; two counts of robbery; mischief under $5,000; and failure to comply with an undertaking. He remains in custody.
“Nathan Francis, previously arrested and charged in this matter, appeared before a justice of the peace on Oct. 18, 2024, and was subsequently released to attend court in Inuvik on Nov. 26, 2024,” said Seaward. “He has been placed under conditions not to return to the community of Fort McPherson.”
