A Hay River man is facing charges after an incident involving a knife.

Police say they received multiple reports of a man wielding a knife in the downtown area of Hay River on July 8.

When officers arrived, they arrested three suspects and recovered two knives. Two of the three people were later released without charges.

After an investigation, police determined the third suspect had been in an altercation with an unknown fourth person who fled the scene before the Mounties arrived.

Forty-one-year-old Randall Mandeville is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He is scheduled to appear in Hay River Territorial Court on Aug. 26.

"There is not believed to be any further risk to the public at this time. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident," said NT RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Josh Seaward. "Anyone who has information about this incident is asked to contact the Hay River RCMP at 874-1111 or Crime Stoppers at In the event of an emergency call 911."
