Hay River RCMP are asking residents of Pine Crescent, Balsam Drive, Rowe's Trailer Court and Stewart Drive to review their doorbell and security camera footage for suspicious activity in the wake of a recent arson case and two shootings.
Police say they were called to Pine Crescent on Nov. 9 after getting a report someone had been shot. Upon arrival, RCMP say they discovered a house that had been set on fire. Police say an individual evacuated the building upon discovering the fire and was then shot. His injuries were non-life-threatening. The suspect had already left the scene by the time police arrived.
RCMP say they then received a second complaint about shots fired into a residence in Rowe's Trailer Court and then multiple suspects fled in a vehicle. No injuries were reported in the second shooting.
"Both of these incidents are believed to be linked to the drug trade and organized crime," said NT RCMP media relations officer Const. Josh Seaward. "Investigation into the matters is underway with support from the Crime Reduction Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and Major Crimes Unit. No arrests have been made at this time.
"Anyone with information on these matters is asked to contact the Hay River RCMP at 874-1111 or Crime Stoppers at http://www.p3tips.com. In the event of an emergency call, 911."
Seaward said police are asking anyone with security footage of the areas around the incident to check both Nov. 9 and Nov. 11 from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. for any activity out of the ordinary. He said residents can contact RCMP to review any footage provided.
