Longtime Inuvik pilot and figurehead Freddy Carmichael said goodbye to his last plane on Sept. 18 with a warm surprise.
Friends, family and those appreciative of his time in the air came out to join him in sending off his wings, with representatives of many government departments, airport services and local businesses blocking off a section of the Dempster Highway to allow the plane to take off from the highway.
After 67 years in the air, Carmichael was able to watch his last plane fly off to its next life in Nebraska.
