Kendall McDonald has served on numerous boards and coached in the area for many years.

1) What made you decide to run for a town council seat?

Residents asked me to run for council in previous elections and I declined due to other commitments and obligations. My wife and I used our spare time to both coach and sit on various boards, which took up a lot of time and energy. I didn't think it would be fair to the residents of the town to run for council unless I could dedicate the time and energy to represent them properly. I now have the time and energy needed to properly represent our town.

2) What experience do you bring to the table?

Although I don't have any previous experience in municipal politics, I believe I have all the skills to make effective and responsible decisions for the residents of Inuvik.

3) What do you see as the big issues facing Inuvik this election?

1 -  I think the biggest issue is that we are not be being as financially responsible as we need to be. As a small town, we must use our resources both fairly and responsibly. We need to communicate and be transparent with the way our tax dollars are spent and make sure we educate ourselves with the issues that arise in order to best deal with them. We must not be shortsighted when making decisions that will benefit the town in the long term.

2 - Homelessness, and addictions are also a major issue with our town. I believe we must work with the various other government agencies and local organizations to help our residents who struggle with addictions.

3 -  We need to enforce our bylaws.

4 - We need to have our recreation facilities open and working. I believe the MSC [Midnight Sun Complex] is a very important to this community. It helps improve our quality of life, gives us a place to gather and is an attraction for new residents.

4) How do you propose that these issues be resolved?

I am aware that there is not always an easy answer to any of these issues. In order to deal with them effectively, we must educate ourselves as much as possible, listen to what others have to say and make the decisions in the best interest of the town residents.

5) What is your favourite thing about Inuvik?

There is a lot of things I love about Inuvik, but the one thing that stands out is diversity of the people that reside here.
