Peter Clarkson has been elected mayor of Inuvik.
Preliminary results, released 3:03 a.m. on Oct. 22, have Clarkson taking the mayor's chair with 512 votes, compared to incumbent Clarence Wood, who was selected on 222 ballots.
Voter turnout was 36 per cent.
In a Facebook post, Wood conceded defeat and wished Clarkson well in his three-year term.
“Congratulations to the new mayor and council,” he wrote. “I hope you continue to build on the foundation we have laid over the past three years. Best of luck to all of you.”
When it comes to town council, there were 16 candidates vying for eight seats.
