Polar Tech Recreation in Yellowknife has taken a bold step forward with a move to a new location closer to town, unveiling a revamped space and a refreshed identity.
The move marks a new chapter for the well-established powersports and marine dealer, which has been a cornerstone for outdoor enthusiasts in the Northwest Territories for more than 25 years.
“Our move has done wonders,” says owner Joey Sutton. “We’ve relocated to a better spot, and the community response has been incredible.”
After a week-long closure, Outdoor Experts reopened with a successful open house that drew 500 visitors, a turnout Sutton described as a huge confidence booster for his team.
Beyond convenience, the new location also signals a broader vision for the company. Rebranded as Outdoor Experts from the original Polar Tech Recreation, the store caters to a range of outdoor activities, offering everything from snowmobiles and ATVs to winter clothing, GPS devices and gift items.
“We’ve always been more than just a Ski-Doo store,” Sutton explains. “We want to have something for everybody, whether it’s outdoor gear, holiday gifts or tools for serious adventurers. This new space allows us to show people all we have to offer.”
Highlighted in the inventory are top-tier adventure brands like Skidoo, Can-Am, KingFisher and Yamaha, alongside new 2025 models, Sutton is especially excited about the chance to reach new customers.
What sets Outdoor Experts apart?
Outdoor Experts is the only dealership in the region that sells and services both Off Road Vehiclesand snowmobiles. “We’ve faced challenges unique to the North, but we’ve built a reputation for being dependable and offering what people here need,” Sutton says.
The shop’s fully equipped service centre is another key advantage, staffed with experienced technicians who provide everything from routine maintenance to repairs. “When you bring your vehicle to us, you’re not just a number,” Sutton emphasizes. “We prioritize quality and safety, using original parts to ensure long-term reliability.”
For Sutton, who worked with the business for years before taking ownership five years ago, the move is the culmination of a long-standing dream. “This work is fun and rewarding,” he says. “It’s great to be in a position where I can make decisions that benefit our customers and our community.”
“We’ve got a lot to offer, and we’re inviting everyone to come and see for themselves,” he says.
