A residence was shot at and a vehicle caught fire in Fort Smith over the weekend.

RCMP are asking for information from the public to assist in the investigation of these incidents.

The home that was fired upon is located on Field Street. The police say they were notified of the shooting shortly after 5 a.m. on Saturday morning. The vehicle where the shots originated from immediately fled the scene, according to the Mounties.

"This is believed to be a targeted incident and not a random act," the RCMP stated, adding that several shots were fired, but no description of the vehicle was provided in a Feb. 17 news release.

Several minutes later on that early Saturday morning, officers were dispatched to a vehicle on fire at the intersection of Klondike Avenue and Raven Street. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames as the police arrived. The Fort Smith Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

The vehicle was not occupied. No injuries were reported as a result of either event. Police believe these two matters are related and linked to the local drug trade.

No arrests had been made in these matters as of Monday morning. Police are asking anyone who may have information on these incidents to contact the Fort Smith RCMP at 872-1111 or Crime Stoppers at http://www.p3tips.com.

Additionally, residents who have security cameras in the area of Field Street, Klondike Avenue and Raven Street are asked to review any footage they may have from approximately 4:45 a.m. to 5:15 a.m. on Feb. 15. If either of these incidents or any suspicious activity was captured, please contact police.

The investigation is ongoing with support from the Territorial Crime Reduction Unit, Forensic Identification Services as well as Police Dog Services.
