Two more locations in Inuvik have been linked to the recent COVID-19 Delta variant outbreak to the south.

An Aug. 19, 2 p.m. notice from the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer states that anyone who was at the Inuvik Legion on Aug. 14 from 3:30 p.m to 4:30 p.m. and the Mad Trapper Bar on Aug. 15 from 6 p.m. to closing may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus — potentially including the Delta variant — and needs to take immediate safety precautions.

People who are partially vaccinated or not vaccinated need to self-isolate for 10 days from the time of exposure and arrange a test.

People who are fully vaccinated are asked to self-monitor and wear a mask in all public places. If symptoms develop, immediately isolate and arrange a test.

These are in addition to the notice for passengers on Canadian North Flight 244 from Norman Wells to Inuvik on Aug. 14 in rows 13 to 19, who were also potentially exposed to the virus.

The CPHO is recommending people wear masks in indoor locations across the NWT. No changes have been made to public health measures at this time, but the OCPHO has issued a local containment order for the communities of Fort Good Hope and Colville Lake.

There is still only one confirmed case of COVID-19 in Inuvik related to the outbreak and the person is in isolation. So far, there are 168 confirmed infections in the outbreak.
