According to a Facebook post by the Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC), outages experienced in the South Slave region were due to issues occurring from the Taltson Hydro facility near Fort Smith.

The issue, as informed by a NTPC spokesperson, was a cracked oil line at the facility. The crack resulted in a small spill within the power plant.

With the oil system being a part of the generator control system, the unit automatically shut down in a controlled manner as was designed.

Currently, diesel generation is being used to restore power to the area until the oil line can be replaced.

For the impacted South Slave communities of Fort Smith, Hay River and Fort Resolution, the work is expected to be completed on Saturday.
