Dog in Cambridge Bay suspected to have rabies, GN warns

Cambridge-Bay

A dog in Cambridge Bay that is thought to be infected with rabies has prompted an advisory from the Department of Health

Any animal observed behaving strangely, staggering, frothing at the mouth, choking or making strange noises should be avoided and bylaw should be contacted immediately.

Pets should be tied up while outside and watched closely.

Because dogs and foxes can spread rabies to people, anyone who's been bitten or scratched is urged to go to the health centre and report the incident immediately. Quick treatment is essential.

If you see a fox or wolf wandering around the community, or if your dog has had contact with a fox or wolf, call the environmental health officer at 867-983-5241, or bylaw at 867-983-5305.
