Iqaluit RCMP are investigating a fatal all-terrain vehicle incident that occurred Thursday evening in Iqaluit.

A 56-year-old man died after the ATV he was operating overturned in a ditch full of water along Akilliq Drive shortly before 7 p.m.

When police arrived at the scene, bystanders had already pulled the driver from the water and had initiated CPR.

The Iqaluit Fire Department and EMS responded and transported the driver to Qikiqtani General Hospital, but the man later succumbed to his injuries.

“The investigation is ongoing. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time,” the Mounties stated in a Friday afternoon news release.
