A standoff in the 200-block area of Iqaluit was resolved peacefully on Monday morning and charges are expected to be laid, the RCMP stated.

The police called upon the V Division Critical Incident Command team after taking a complaint about an individual who may have been armed. The Mounties then surrounded a residence and closed off a portion of the city.

Crisis negotiators worked toward de-escalating the situation and the suspect eventually surrendered to police without incident.

“The rapid response of the Iqaluit RCMP was instrumental in preventing any potential harm to the community.” Said Cpl. Jamie Savikataaq.
