Kimmirut man charged with second-degree murder

RCMP have laid a charge following the death of an Iqaluit man on Friday that they deemed a homicide.

Brandon Lyta, a 23-year-old Kimmirut resident, is facing a charge of second-degree murder.

He appeared before a justice of the peace after his Saturday arrest and he's being kept in jail.

His next scheduled court appearance is set for July 6 in Iqaluit.

On Friday, the Mounties appealed for public assistance after locating a man in medical distress in the 4100 block of the city during the early morning hours. He was taken to Qikiqtani General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
