With a liquor plebiscite scheduled for Feb. 25 in Kugaaruk, the community will first hold a public meeting on Feb. 13 at the community hall to discuss the implications.
Alcohol is currently prohibited in Kugaaruk. Residents will vote to retain the status quo, or to move to a restricted level of liquor, which would still outlaw "spirits," or hard liquor, but allow residents to purchase up to four litres of wine and nine litres of beer every seven days.
Sanikiluaq residents have a Feb. 4 date set for a similar plebiscite that will determine whether the remote Belcher Islands community will remain on prohibited status or switch to restricted limits of liquor.
