Ottawa Police Service has sent two investigating officers and two forensic officers to Cape Dorset to look into an "incident" involving an RCMP officer, according to Const. Amy Gagnon of the Ottawa police force.

No further details about the nature of the incident have been disclosed.

"We will update you as soon as there is more information available," Gagnon stated.

Nunavut's V Division RCMP issued a news release on Wednesday evening stating that there was an "incident" in Cape Dorset that evening. The news release indicated that Ottawa Police Service would be conducting an independent investigation. The RCMP referred media to the Ottawa police for further information.

The Nunavut Department of Justice is also deferring to Ottawa Police Service on communications surrounding this matter.
