Police arrest Baker Lake man who barricaded himself

A man in Baker Lake who barricaded himself in his residence and who RCMP say was armed, was taken into custody Friday afternoon after hours of negotiations.

The RCMP's Critical Incident Team assisted officers from the community on Friday morning in working with the individual.

The police would like to ensure Baker Lake residents that, despite rumours, there were no hostages taken nor was the public in danger, an RCMP press release states.

"We would like to thank the citizens of Baker Lake for their patience as we peacefully resolved this potentially volatile situation." said Staff Sgt. Stephen Bergerman, the Kivalliq region district commander for the RCMP.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
