A 19-year-old Iqaluit man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly running over two men with his snowmobile in what the RCMP are describing as a “gruesome attack” on Dec. 28.
The assault left a 28-year-old victim in critical condition in an Ottawa Hospital’s intensive care unit. His family is at his side. Police say he was assaulted repeatedly even after being knocked unconscious.
In addition to being accused of attempted murder, Jordan Kovik is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon (snowmobile), uttering threats to cause death and two counts of violating court conditions.
The other victim of the assault was a 29-year-old male who was able to get inside the men’s shelter after he was run over by a snowmobile.
Police say the violent acts occurred after an argument ensued outside an Iqaluit bar.
Kovik was due to appear for a bail hearing Tuesday to determine whether he would remain in jail until his next court date.
The Mounties extended their thanks to the public for providing information and video evidence.
