A company called Nuna Cannabis Store Inc. is vying to be the first to open a physical location to sell cannabis in Nunavut — at 1501 Federal Road in Iqaluit.

Since opening the application process three weeks ago, the Government of Nunavut is now in possession for a proposal to open a cannabis shop in Iqaluit.. Public input is being invited.

It would be an enclosed store, where only adults over age 19 would be permitted to enter. Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., store staff would be allowed to sell cannabis products and have “sensory display items” or “smell jars,” as well as discuss product information with customers.

The GN is obligated to consult the community when an application is received to open a cannabis shop. Iqalummiut can send their comments, concerns and views about a cannabis store opening in Iqaluit to cannabis@gov.nu.ca or call 867-975-5875. The deadline to submit feedback is Aug. 20 at 5 p.m.

The territorial government opened the application process for physical and online cannabis stores three weeks ago.
